Locus of calm
Kimolos is a small Cycladic island with strong natural character and minimal development. Next to the tourist-heavy Milos, it has deliberately stayed off the mass-tourism map. With less than 700 residents, most of the island is unbuilt. Its modest architecture uses local materials and simple Cycladic forms, blending seamlessly with the landscape and human scale. Kimolos offers pristine nature, clear waters, and traditional gastronomy, but its real value lies in its sense of calm and continuity. For locals and visitors alike it is a place where time and space coexist without excess. A place where the pace slows down and the landscape stays clear.

Inspired by Kimolos’ pop-up lending libraries, this project transforms the open-air-library into an architectural concept that enriches island life. It builds on the creativity and care of local initiatives, respecting existing efforts while extending their impact. Kappa aspires to be a place for human exchange – open to all who love Kimolos and books.

The project fosters community, celebrates the island’s unique character, and invites mindful travelers to slow down and savor the island.

A new island hangout for shade, rest, and books, shared by locals and visitors alike.
